Selmes family.
Sarah Benton, Isabella Greenway's grandmother, was married to Tilden Selmes in 1850 in St. Louis, Missouri; the family sided with the Union forces during the Civil War. Their son, Tilden, Jr. was Isabella's father; he moved to Mandan, Dakota territory in 1878 to ranch and practice law. His ranch neighbor and friend was Theodore Roosevelt. In 1883, Tilden, Jr. married Martha "Patty" Flandrau, the daughter of Charles Eugene Flandrau. Their only child, Isabella Dinsmore Selmes, was born in 1886.
