Lutheran - Orthodox Dialogues were initiated in the 1960s. In 1965, representatives of the NLC, serving as USANC, and the Standing Conference of Orthodox Bishops of the Americas met to discuss the possibility of commencing theological discussion between the two groups. Talks were held in 1967 and 1969 and included Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod participation.
