Gayle Patricia Williams Hanson was born in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1952. She met her future husband in the early 1970s while attending the University of Texas at Arlington as a history pre-law major. She married and left college before graduating to raise her two children. Ms. Hanson continued to pursue her passion for history, becoming involved in many projects important to Arlington and Texas African-American cultural heritage. She has been active with many area historical societies and is involved as a consultant for museum exhibits. She is also active in the Barbara Jordan Historical Essay Competition and created a resource guide for the Fort Worth region. A pioneer in public ethno-history, she develops programs for Black History Month and also mentors students.
