Robert Ridgway (1850-1929) was the ornithologist participating in the U.S. Geologic Survey 40th Parallel survey from 1867-1869. He later worked for the Smithsonian, where he became nationally known in his field.

John Ridgway is best known as a scientific illustrator. He served as chief illustrator for the U.S. Geologic Survey, and illustrator for the California Institute of Technology and Carnegie Institute.
