The Pittsburgh Press Club, the world's oldest chartered press club, was founded on January 29, 1881, by several Pittsburgh newspapermen. The Club's purpose was to provide financial support for indigent newspapermen. The Club was forced to close on November 28, 1990 due to a lack of funds.
