Edward A. Myers was born in 1917. He received an A.B. in Philosophy at Princeton University in 1938. He received an honorary Doctor of Business Administration in 1961 at Portland University. For many years Myers was the author of the witty All At Sea, his monthly column in Working Waterfront. He also wrote for National Fisherman, and pioneered the business of shipping lobsters around the country. In 1949 he established Saltwater Farm Inc. in Damariscotta, Maine. He also owned a seafood restaurant, Saltwater Farm Pier, in Damariscotta. In 1969 he became assistant to the director of the Darling Center at the University of Maine. Later in life he started Abandoned Farm, North America's first mussel aquaculture venture, located in Walpole on the Damariscotta River. He helped write many of the state's early aquaculture laws and was granted the first aquaculture lease in Maine. When not on the water Myers was active in social concerns, including Citizens Opposing Nuclear Arms (CONA) and acting as a lay preacher to prisoners in the Maine State Prison. Edward Myers passed away in 2002 at age 85.
