The 1200-member organization of publishers, printers, editors, writers, researchers, and libraries was formed in Berkeley, California, in May.

1967 to disseminate information about printing and marketing small magazines and books. The organization publishes a monthly newsletter providing technical information on writing and printing, distribution data, grant information, review sources, and writers' market information. Members also received technical pamphlets on printing, layout and publishing, as well as access to mailing lists and technical support. COSMEP also maintained an office in Carrboro, North Carolina, and was governed by a nine-member board of directors elected yearly by the membership.
