John Moore, a judge, and politician of Saint Mary, Saint Landry and Iberia Parishes of Louisiana, served as a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives, 1825-1834. He was a member of the 26th and 27th Congresses of Louisiana (1840-1843), was elected to the 32nd Congress, and was a delegate to the State Secession Convention, 1861, where he introduced the Louisiana Secession Ordinance. He was a sugar planter at Magnolia Ridge Plantation (also called Oakland Plantation), which he built in 1830 in Washington, Louisiana. He moved to the Shadows Plantation in 1841, when he married Mary Clara Conrad, the widow of David Weeks.

John Moore was a sugar planter, a judge, and a politician of Saint Mary, Saint Landry and Iberia Parishes in Louisiana. He served as a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives, 1825-1834, while he lived in Franklin, Louisiana. He was a member of the 26th and 27th Congresses (1840-1843), was elected to the 32nd Congress, and was a delegate to the State Secession Convention, 1861, where he introduced the Louisiana Secession Ordinance. Moore built the Magnolia Ridge Plantation (also called Oakland Plantation) in Washington, Louisiana, in 1830. He moved to the Shadows-on-the-Teche Plantation in New Iberia after marrying the widow of David Weeks, Mary Clara Conrad, in 1841. Moore and his first wife, Adelaide Demarest, had two daughters, Evelina and Adelaide. Evelina married William M. Prescott and after his death, married William Offutt. Adelaide was married to Willis B. Prescott and to Dr. James Leigh. The Prescotts lived at Magnolia Ridge Plantation and worked as sugar planters.
