Strate, Jacob R., ca. 1827-1881.
Jacob R. Strate, born ca. 1827, was a carpenter and native of Newark, New Jersey. Strate came to Savannah in the 1850s and on July 9, 1857 married Fanny B. Thomas of Charleston. They had three children. Jacob worked as a machinist and carpenter for the Central of Georgia Railway Company from 1867 to 1881. He died on December 18, 1881 and is buried in Laurel Grove Cemetery.
