Bethlehem Steel Company. Employees' Representation Plan. Number Three Joint Committee.
The Bethlehem Steel Company (1899-1964) established its Employee Representation Plan in 1919. It was essentially a company union under which representatives elected by the employees met regularly with representatives of management to handle grievances. The plan was one of the main points of contention in the CIO's "Little Steel" strike of 1937. After several appeals by the company, union elections were held in 1941, and the Employee Representation Plan was dismantled.
