Iorwerth Cyfeiliog Peate was born in 1901 in Llanbrynmair, Montgomeryshire. He was a poet and he worked at the National Museum of Wales before establishing the Welsh Folk Museum at St. Fagan and becoming it's first curator.

During the Second World War he was persecuted for being a pacifist.

Collections of his poetry were published over the years, Y Cawg Aur (1928), Plu'r Gweunydd (1933), Y Deyrnas Goll (1947). He died in 1982.
