James, Charles, -1978
Variant namesBritish born fashion designer, James opened his couture business in Paris in 1934 where he developed close associations with Dior, Poiret and others before relocating to New York in 1939. Retiring in 1958, he turned his attention to painting and scullpture but in 1962 designed a line for E.J. Korvette. He is known for his dolman wraps, asymmetrical shapes, sculptured effects and precise cuts and seams.
