Mystic Seven. Temple of the Wreath (Centenary College of Louisiana)

The first temple of the Mystic Seven, a secret literary society, was founded in 1837 by seven students at Wesleyan University to promote the "social, intellectual, and moral improvement of its members." The Mystic Seven, Temple of the Wreath was founded in 1845 at Centenary College in Jackson, La., by the Mystic Seven temple at Emory College. The Temple of the Wreath died in 1846, but was refounded in 1849 by Daniel Martindale (pseud. "Cheops"), a member of the first temple at Wesleyan University, when he joined the faculty at Centenary.
