Frank A. Ayer (1886-1976) was a 1911 graduate of the Columbia school of engineering and specialized in copper mining. He served with the Phelps Dodge Corporation with its mining properties in Arizona from 1911-1916, and after serving in World War I, served with Phelps Dodge from 1919-1933. Ayer was general manager of the Roan Antelope Copper Mines, Ltd. in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) from 1933-1941. During World War II he was in charge of copper production for the War Production Board in the U.S. from 1941-1945. He later served as a consultant and vice-president of the Copper Range Company from 1945-1952.
