The Council on International Programs was established at North Carolina State University in 1967, following legislation passed by the United States Congress in 1966 to allocate additional funding to institutions with international programming. The Council on International Programs was intended to work in an advisory capacity with the Office of International Programs, which was also established in 1967. The council's name was changed around 1985 to the Committee on International Programs, and sometime thereafter to the current name of International Programs Committee. This committee remains active as of 2011, and continues to act in an advisory capacity to the Office of International Affairs (formerly the Office of International Programs) and the Provost's Office for matters related to international programming at NC State.
