Dr. John Kuykendall is the 15th president of Davidson College. He graduated from the college in 1959. From 1960-1962 he was Assistant Director of Alumni and Public Relations at the college, then Assistant Dean of Students. He received a Bachelor of Divinity in 1964 from Union Theological Seminary, and a Master of Sacred Theology from Yale Divinity School in 1965. From 1965-1970 he served as Presbyterian pastor at Auburn University, and from 1971-1972, Princeton University's interim Presbyterian campus pastor. He graduated from Princeton University in 1972 with a Master of Arts in American Religion, and returned to auburn University as an instructor of religion.
In 1975 he graduated from Princeton University with a degree of Doctor of Philosophy in American Religion. He became a professor of religion at Auburn University, where he remained until accepting presidency of Davidson College in 1984.
