Jorgensen, the fourth of six children, was born and raised in Pocatello, Idaho. Jorgensen served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the El Paso, Texas Mission from 1998 to 2000. Jorgensen graduated from Idaho State University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Art degree in English writing. During the summer of 2003, Jorgensen worked as a folklore fieldworker intern in Bear Lake County, Idaho for the Bear River Heritage Area. Jorgensen then moved to Provo, Utah where he began work on his Master's Degree in American Literature at Brigham Young University.
