Ward Shepard (1887-1959): forestry expert and environmentalist; B.A., Harvard College, 1910, Master's degree from Harvard Forest School, 1913; director of Harvard Forest School, 1936-1939; worked with the U.S. Office of Indian Affairs as assistant to John Collier, 1933-1936 and after 1939 as advisor to the Department of Agriculture on forest policy; wrote on problems of erosion and on the development of natural resources.
