Department responsible for stocking cars with linens and supplies, maintaining a stock of parts for car maintenance and repair, and operating the Pullman Company-owned laundries.
Prior to 1919, the Stores Department was combined with the Yard Department, and in 1951, its name was changed to the Purchases and Stores Department. It operated numerous storerooms throughout the United States, a General Storeroom adjacent to the Calumet Shops, and beginning in 1923, ten company laundries. The department also maintained a standard catalog of over 75,000 items and controlled the requisition and ordering of all materials and supplies.
