Lenox Gore Cooper was the son of William Bryant Cooper (1866- 1959) and Frances Ada Gore Cooper of Wilmington, N.C. He graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1921, served with the U.S. Navy in World War II, was a real estate and insurance executive in Wilmington, and served on the Board of Trustees of the University of North Carolina, 1957- 1972, and the Board of Governors, 1972-1975.
