Wedgwood, Camilla H. (Camilla Hildegarde), 1901-1955
Variant namesAnthropologist and educator. Camilla Wedgwood studied anthropology at Newnham College, Cambridge between 1920-1924. She undertook fieldwork from 1932-1934, studying the lives of women and children on Manam, and in 1935 studied the revival of native arts and crafts on Nauru. She was appointed Principal of the Women's College within the University of Sydney from 1935-1944. She also served as a lieutenant-colonel in the Directorate of Research and Civil Affairs within the Australian Army Medical Women's Service from 1944-1945, where she developed policies for the educational reconstruction of Papua and New Guinea.
