Janin, Louis, 1837-1914
Louis Janin (1837-1914) was a mining engineer educated at Yale and then at the Freiberg Mining Academy. He began his career in the Western United States, making his first mark on the profession on the Comstock Lode in Nevada in the early 1860s, and later obtained experience in mining fields all over the Far West. He acquired a growing list of clients including investors in Mexican properties and, in 1873, the Japanese government. His three sons, Louis, Eugene, and Charles, also became mining engineers.
