Melville Lutheran Church (Melville, Mont.)
This congregation, originally known as Sweet Grass Evangelical Lutheran Congregation, was organized in the home of Henry Ellingson on October 26, 1885 by Rev. Reinertson. He was sent by the Home Mission Board of the Norway-Augustana Synod to establish a preaching mission at Melville.
On March 27, 1890 the congregation voted to join the United Church. They were joined by two other mission fields which included Sweet Grass, Swamp Creek and Castle (Lennep). Lower Sweet Grass and Lennep later organized as separate congregations.
The parsonage was built in 1895, and the first church was dedicated November 29, 1914. In 1968 a basement and addition to the church were added. The 100th anniversary of the church was celebrated in 1895.
