Henry Sherman: studied at Yale Law School, graduating 1829; admitted to the bar in 1832; practiced in New York City from 1841 to 1850, while also publishing on legal subjects; practiced in New Haven, 1850-1860; in 1861 moved to Washington, D.C., and was employed until 1868 by the Treasury Department; served briefly as Chief Justice of the Territory of New Mexico.
