Alice Ward Walker was a music teacher in the Newark, New Jersey public schools. Born on May 13, 1907 in New York City, she attended Erasmus Hall High School until her graduation in 1924. A graduate of Wellesley College in 1928, Alice Walker went on to receive her M.A. from the Teachers College of Columbia University in 1929. She then taught music in the public schools of Newark, New Jersey until her retirement. She retired to Darien, Connecticut, where she continued the work of her father, Claude Walker, on the family history.
