Joseph Chrisman MacKinnon, 1891-1970, was registrar of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He earned an SB in electrical engineering at MIT in 1913. He returned to MIT in 1915 as an assistant and instructor in the Department of Physics, a role he held until 1924. In 1923, MacKinnon was appointed registrar, a position he held until his retirement in 1956. While registrar he also served as a lecturer in statistics (1932 to 1935) and assistant secretary of the faculty (1934 to 1951).
