Avery, Anne Pearl, 1943-
Variant namesAnnie Pearl Avery was raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with relatives. When she moved back to Birmingham, Alabama, she was no longer used to segregation. Eventually Avery became SNCC’s project director for the voter registration effort in Hale County, Alabama. After working with SNCC, Avery never abandoned her commitment to civil rights struggle.
