Thornton Lutheran Church (Wales, Alaska)
The congregation in the community of Wales has roots in the congregation mission which was established July 4, 1890. It was re-established as a Presbyterian mission in 1921. During its early history one of the workers, Mr. Thornton, was murdered. In 1954 the mission was transferred to the Covenant Church until 1971, when congregation voted to join Lutheran Church and was admitted to ALC in 1973.
