Esther H. Thompson was born March 3, 1853. She was the daughter of George and Harriett Thompson of Litchfield, Connecticut. As a young woman Esther attended Wesleyan Academy in Wilbraham, Mass., and completed the regular course of study in 1876. Esther then returned to her family home in Litchfield and began teaching. By 1882 she had become the principal of the Connecticut Industrial School for Girls in Middletown, Conn. (a private institution established in 1869 for delinquent girls). After serving as principal in Middletown Esther returned to her hometown. Besides education she was also interested in botany and was a member of The Bryologist and The Sullivant Moss Society. Esther H. Thompson passed away in Litchfield on June 2, 1929.
