Clark served as an Intelligence officer in the U.S. Navy European Theather of World War II from 1944-1945 achieving the rank of Lieutenant Commander. on the Control Council during WWII and went on a special mission to Capri, Italy. He was awarded the Legion of Merit for "meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service" during WWII. Received the rank of Lt. Cmdr.
