Dr. Lindsey Mock was born in Miller County, Georgia in 1931. His father was a farmer and his mother a homemaker. Because Georgia only had eleven grades when he graduated from high school, he went to the University of Georgia at 16-1/2 years of age. The tuition at that time was $45.00 a quarter. Dr. Mock graduated from UGA in 1952 and joined the army. After serving in the Korean War, he came back to UGA and earned a masters degree and a doctorate in education. He was interviewed at a number of places, but because his major professor was a good friend of Dr. Whitley, Dr. Mock accepted a job at Columbus College. He came to Columbus College on July 1, 1961 as Director of Counseling Services and Chair of the Education Psychology Division. Dr. Mock served in various positions during his 31 year career at Columbus College, including Vice President of Student Affairs.
