Alphonso Pierce, son of Veranus F. and Louisa Reed (Merrill) Pierce, was born in Windsor, Maine, 29 April 1845, and died on 26 November 1864. Alphonso enlisted in the Union Army in February 1864 and served in Company 1 of the D.C. Cavalry then transferred to Company G of 1st Cavalry in February 1865. He was taken prisoner at Sycamore Church, Virginia on September 16, 1864.
