Jewell, Ruth Lucile Allison, 1905-1996.
Ruth "Lucile" Allison Jewell (1905-1996) was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Rufus and Edna Allen Allison. She was one of nine African American women graduates of Butler University (Indianapolis, Ind.) in 1927. After graduation Jewell worked at the South Carolina State Agricultural and Mechanical College (Orangeburg, S.C.) and in 1930 was appointed dean of girls at the Kentucky State Industrial College (later Kentucky State University) at Frankfort, Ky. She married Paul W. Jewell circa 1932 and the union bore one child, Paula.
