Alexander Gallatin Paxton (b. Oct. 4, 1896, Vicksburg, Miss.-d. Aug. 11, 1974), Mississippi National Guard officer, was commissioned in the field artillery, Officers Reserve Corps, in 1917 after graduating from university. He was called to active duty in 1940 as commanding officer, 114th Field Artillery. During World War II, he was also chief of staff, 31st Infantry Division, and commanding general, 33rd Infantry Division Artillery. After his release from active service late in 1945, General Paxton became commanding general, 31st Infantry Division, Mississippi National Guard.
