Harvard Teachers Association

The Harvard Teachers' Association was founded in 1891 as an organization for officers and graduates of Harvard University, and for students at the University either in term time or in the Summer Schools, who then taught or intended to be teachers. Its mission was “to promote the development of the study of Education and Teaching at Harvard University, to promote the professional advancement of the members of the Association, and especially to promote the free interchange of thought upon education questions among the teachers whom the University has sent forth.” In 1958, the Association was dissolved and its assets were transferred to the Harvard Graduate School of Education Association. Not to be confused with the Harvard Teachers Association, a local affiliate of the Massachusetts Teachers Association (MTA) and the National Education Association (NEA) based in the town of Harvard, Massachusetts and active in 2020.
