Variant namesThe 1st Battalion Georgia Sharpshooters formed on August 15, 1862. It mustered at Camp Anderson south of Savannah, Georgia. The battalion was stationed at Fort McAllister, Georgia, in 1863. George Columbus Dent married Ophelia Troup in 1847. During the Civil War, he was the captain of Company D, 1st Georgia Battalion Sharpshooters.
