Rivard (1928-2008) was the son of G. A. and Margaret (Schmid) Rivard. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict, 1951-1953. On November 28, 1953, William married Nancy Love Hill. He earned his B.A. Degree from Puget Sound, His. M.U.S. from Florida State, and his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa. Dr. Rivard was Professor of Music at Central Michigan University (CMU), from 1959 to 1992, when he retired. Dr. Rivard died in 2008 and was survived by his wife and children: David (Leanne), Nancy E., and Derek A. Rivard, a granddaughter, two brothers, and a sister.
