Hennig Cohen, born in Darlington, S.C. on August 26, 1919, received a B.A. in 1941 and an M.A. in 1948 from the University of South Carolina and his Ph.D from Tulane University, 1951. Dr. Cohen taught in the English Department of the University of Pennsylvania and served as executive secretary and then president of the American Melville Society.
