White Mountain Research Station

White Mountain Research Station is a University of California Multicampus Research Unit (MRU). Established jointly by the University of California and the Office of Naval Research in 1950, the research unit comprises four laboratory sites located in the vicinity of Bishop, Calif., with altitudes ranging from 4,050 ft. to 14,250 ft. The purpose of the research unit is to provide high-altitude laboratory facilities to investigators in the areas of astronomy, ecology, geology, and life sciences and to serve as a teaching facility for University of California field courses. Oversight of the research unit is assigned to a Director and to the UC President's Advisory Committee for White Mountain Research Station.
