Valerie Fennell was born in South Carolina. She received an MA in Clinical Psychology from the Fielding Institute and a PhD from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. Dr. Fennell is currently an Associate Professor of Anthropology at Georgia State University. She is a member of several Anthropological Associations, as well as the National Women's Studies Association. Dr. Fennell was one of the many women instrumental in building Georgia State University's Women's Studies program through instructing classes, sitting on boards aiding in publicity and in many other aspects of building a new program.
