South Carolina. Militia. Regiment, 1st. German Artillery.
The German Artillery was organized in Charleston, South Carolina in 1841 for service in Texas; however, the company never served in this capacity. The company became part of the state militia under the name of the German Artillery. George A. Wagener became its captain until his death in 1847, at which time his brother, John A. Wagener, succeeded him.
