Emil Lesko, born Emilius and nicknamed Les, was born 1 Jan. 1918 in Passaic, N.J. before the family moved near Pittsburgh, Pa. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he attended Penn State Mont Alto and graduated from the University Park campus in 1950 with a degree in Landscape Horticulture. He has worked as a landscape architect in Pennsylvania and Ohio, and for the U.S. government on Lady Bird Johnson's highway beautification project.
