Rulon, John W., 1799-1872.
John W. Rulon was a merchant based in Philadelphia from the late 1820s through the 1860s. He began his career as a storekeeper, then became a merchant and was later a supercargo (an officer who traveled on merchant ships overseeing the cargo). After several years of traveling between Philadelphia and Calcutta as a supercargo and importer-exporter and residing in Calcutta for periods of time, Rulon returned to Philadelphia and was later joined by his sons in the mercantile business as the John W. Rulon and Sons Company.
