Fred Holt worked at the Bank of Australasia from 1933 until 1941 when he volunteered for the Australian Navy. He was soon transferred to the United Kingdom for further training and sea experience, which lasted six months. In 1943 he survived the sinking of the HMS Intrepid and continued serving in the Navy as both a Lieutenant and First Lieuntenant on destroyers in the Mediterranean and the Phillipines. In 1946 he resumed his banking career at the ANZ and worked there until his retirement in 1974. After retiring Holt continued working at the bank but as a part-time Archivist.
