Scharnau, Ralph,
Labor activist and historian from Dubuque, Iowa.
Ralph Scharnau was born in 1935 in Woodstock, Ill. He studied in history at Beloit College and Northern Illinois University (graduate school). After teaching at McKendree College in the St. Louis vicinity from 1965 until 1970 he accepted a faculty position at the University of Dubuque. During his tenure in Dubuque he was actively involved with issues of faculty rights and unionization.
