Nancy Cox-McCormack Cushman (1885-1967) was a sculptor, author, socialite, and traveler. She studied art in St. Louis, Missouri and at the Art Institute of Chicago, and was a close friend of Lauro De Bosis' mother, Lillian De Bosis, as well as Lauro De Bosis.
Lauro De Bosis (1901-1931) was an Italian poet, classicist, anti-fascist, and freedom fighter. He was born and educated in Rome, the son of an American, Lillian Vernon De Bosis, and an Italian poet, Adolfo De Bosis. He taught at Harvard University beginning in 1926. In 1930 he organized an underground anti-fascist movement in Italy he called the Alleanza Nazionale (or National Alliance). De Bosis disappeared in October of 1931 after dropping anti-fascist leaflets from an airplane over Rome.
