Hide Profile

Chicago-based association of professional, amateur, and student bookbinders.

The Chicago Hand Bookbinders was organized informally in 1978; a first meeting was convened by Bill Minter on February 8, 1979. The club has since sponsored frequent exhibits of members' work. Among its notable projects was a series of fifteen collaborative artist's alphabet books in varying formats, created between 1987 and 2004. These books, typically in an edition of two, were raffled off with the second copies going to local institutions (including the Newberry Library and the Joan Flasch Collection at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago Library).
