Founded under the auspices of the Daughters of the American Revolution of Illinois and incorporated August 29, 1916 for the purpose of establishing a Lincoln memorial by placing permanent markers along the highways of the old eighth judicial circuit over which Abraham Lincoln and his associates traveled when regularly attending court. Founding members were Otto L. Schmidt, J.O. Cunningham, Jessie Palmer Weber, Anne M. Bahnsen, and Lotte E. Jones.
