Spring Forge was constructed on the headwaters of the Codorus Creek at Pigeon Hills in York County, Pa., in 1770 by George Ross & Company. The firm was composed of George Ross, George Stevenson, and William Thompson, who had also constructed the Mary Ann Furnace in 1762-63. Between 1775 and 1815 the forge passed among several owners, Daniel Shireman (1775), John Brien (1800), David Eaton (1807) and Robert Coleman (1815). The forge was operated by Coleman's son, Thomas Burd Coleman from 1817 to 1850 and was abandoned in 1851.
