Architect, of Portland, Me.; b. 1855; d. 1940; originally in partnership with Albert Winslow Cobb; son, John Howard Stevens, joined firm in 1904 and continued until 1958; his son, John Calvin Stevens, 2nd joined firm before World War II and returned afterwards, taking on partner James Saunders in the early 1950s; after 1958 with the death of John Howard Stevens and departure of James Saunders, John Calvin Stevens, 2nd operated firm as a single proprietorship until he was joined by his son, Paul Stevens in 1966; in late 1960s firm renamed Stevens Architects and took on partner Gustave Heckster; in 1973 became subsidiary of E.C. Jordan Company, Engineers; in 1981 separated from Jordan and reorganized as Stevens, Morton, Rose & Thompson; in 1966 renamed SMRT, a large architectural firm with officers in Portland, Camden, N.J., and Orlando, Fla.
